The process of creating anthropomorphic animal characters can often be seen best in the world of animated movies. Classic characters from cartoons and movies all feature animal designs with human qualities. If you decide to read anthropomorphic animal comics instead, you will see some vast differences in the ways the comics approach the world of animals.

1. Clothing

In animated movies, animal characters often wear human clothes, but in a much different fashion than humans. Characters may wear tops without pants. The clothing styles of characters often feature over-saturated designs and bright patterns. Many of the characters will often wear the same outfits as well.

Characters in anthro comics often feature designs to make the characters look as close to human life as possible. This includes pants, fashion styles, and clothing layers like a full suit. The clothing adds a more realistic element and could feature muted tones.

As you read from issue to issue, you may notice the characters in different outfits as well. The outfits can reflect their personality or be a part of the scenery. For example, if an animal character has scenes outdoors, then the character may have extra layers on like a warm jacket.

2. Character Actions

Animated movie animal characters may walk on two feet like humans, but their personalities and actions reflect a one-note comedic style. The characters are supposed to provide a lot of comedy and may not have the same depth and introspection that humans do.

Comics with anthropomorphic animals will often dive deep into a character's personality, backstory, and interests. The wide range of a character helps keep readers interested and finds a human connection with the animal-based character. Characters may have morals and ethics that become their foundation and a crucial part of the story.

3. Animal Characteristics

Animated movie characters often include personality traits based directly on the animals. For example, you may see a duck character quack his way through an argument. A serious comic book may showcase those animal characteristics on deeper levels and layered emotions.

For example, a natural predator like a lion may have to confront his hunting lifestyle and use his aggression in a wide range of ways. The anthro comic books find unique ways to balance the natural instincts of specific species with layered emotions and decision-making.

While movie characters often hit the reset button after each show or movie, serious comic book characters can grow and learn through their journey in the comic book stories.
